About Me
AUTHENTIC, DISCIPLINED, & RELATIONSHIP-ORIENTED
Hello, I am Nick Reed and if you would have asked me at the start of the semester who I am I would have answered that I am a business student at Miami University who is from Cincinnati that is studying Finance, but over the course of the semester in ESP 103 with Professor Eyman, I have learned that a basic introduction like that does not show the full story of who I am, or what I am becoming.
My story is not like most students here at Miami, I began my college career at Indiana University (GO HOOSIERS) at the Kelley School of Business where I experienced a large student body, and ultra competitive academic environment. That experience helped me realize that I was not looking for a cutthroat academic environment where my success influenced the success of other students. I was on the fence about transferring until my compass professor, Ray Sylvester, showed our class Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs; from this I understood that while I was at Kelley I was in the Safety Needs section because of Kelley graduates success in the professional world, but I knew to reach Self-Actualization I needed to come to Miami.
Miami's student body and the sense of connection amongst the students was the leading decision of why I ended up transferring. The FYIC program has only emphasized that reason on why I wanted to come here. Specifically in ESP 103, I have found myself getting out of my comfort zone, learning that creativity is not using the first solution to the problem, and confidence is key.
Outside of this, some of my passions are cheering on the Cincinnati Bengals, who I have been a fan of since the day I was born. My family has been season ticket holders for ten years and I have been to almost every game, and have been a loyal fan through thick and thin, very very very thin. I also enjoy playing golf, pickleball, and relaxing at the pool during the summertime and skiing, ice-fishing, and hunting in Colorado during the winter. After college I hope to enter the financial services industry or real estate and I believe Farmer is the perfect university that will allow me to be success in my career.
Love & Honor,
